“ Maybe the first question wasn’t how to build, but how to belong. How can architecture step lightly into the hills, using local materials and forms to become part of the landscape instead of standing apart?”
Matra Retreat
Nestled in the natural beauty of the Mátra hills, this hotel and retreat is designed to harmonize with its surroundings through the thoughtful use of local materials and vernacular architectural elements. Stone and wood—echoing the textures of nearby buildings and regional landmarks—form the core of the material palette, grounding the project in its context.
The architectural layout responds directly to the terrain, with the building’s wings gently stepping into the landscape and green terraces extending the natural environment onto the structure itself. This integration creates a seamless transition between architecture and nature, offering guests an immersive and tranquil experience rooted in place.
